Village Hall & Parish Assistant (Part-Time)
Stanton under Bardon Parish Council is seeking a friendly, organised and community-minded individual to support the Parish Clerk and assist with the day-to-day running of Stanton under Bardon Village Hall.
This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of the village, working with residents, hirers and volunteers to ensure the hall remains welcoming, well-managed and vibrant.
Key responsibilities include providing administrative support, responding to enquiries, managing bookings, and showing prospective hirers around the facilities. The successful candidate will also coordinate a programme of regular events, promote the Village Hall, and support our team of volunteers.
Excellent communication skills, basic IT proficiency and a flexible, proactive approach are essential. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
8 hours per week – flexible working
£13.26 – £13.47 per hour, reviewed annually in line with NALC pay awards.

Purpose of the Role
To support the Parish Clerk with the day-to-day administration and management of the Village Hall and parish activities, helping to deliver an efficient, welcoming and well-organised service for residents, hirers and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Administration Support
- Assist the Parish Clerk with general administrative duties
- Respond to emails, telephone calls and enquiries from residents and hirers
- Maintain accurate records, documents and filing systems
- Support preparation for meetings and events as required
- Act as first point of contact and provide cover when the Clerk is unavailable
Bookings and Hirer Liaison
- Manage Village Hall bookings and maintain the bookings calendar
- Handle enquiries, provide information and issue hire documentation
- Meet prospective hirers, show the facilities and explain operational procedures
- Liaise with hirers before and after events to ensure smooth operation
- Monitor compliance with hire terms and conditions and report any concerns
Events and Volunteering
- Plan, coordinate and deliver an annual programme of Village Hall events
- Support the development of a volunteer group to assist with events
- Help coordinate volunteer activities and encourage wider community involvement
Keyholding and Facilities Support
- Share keyholding responsibilities with the caretaker
- Assist with opening and closing the hall when required
- Report maintenance, cleaning or health and safety concerns promptly
Community Engagement and Promotion
- Promote the Village Hall and parish activities
- Create and share content for social media, noticeboards and the Council website
Person Specification
Essential
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Friendly, approachable and confident when dealing with the public
- Basic IT skills (email, document preparation and social media)
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Reliable and flexible, with willingness to undertake occasional evening or weekend duties
Desirable
- Experience in administration or customer service
- Experience working with volunteers
- Knowledge of the local community
- Experience using booking systems or social media for promotion
Reporting Line
The post reports directly to the Parish Clerk.
Hours of Work
8 hours per week
Hours will be flexible
Some evening and weekend work will be required to support bookings, events and activities
Pay Scale
The position will be paid at SCP 5–6, currently £13.26–£13.47 per hour, reviewed annually in line with NALC pay awards.
